Online College Course ForumSunday, December 04, 2005Online Santa
I foolishly decided to try to get into the Holiday spirit this weekend. I looked on the web for online courses for Santa Claus - and to my surprise (I don't know why, I should know by now that there is an online course for almost everything in the known universe) there were a number of websites that catered for this - well, not exactly on how to be Santa Claus, but at least something germane to the topic.
Of the 2,730,000 responses I googled, I saw several that dealt with a variety of histories of Santa Claus, a year without Santa Claus, the physics of Santa Claus, and Santa Claus and the Martians. My personal favorite is the physics of Santa Claus, which asks the opinion of three eminent physics professors and an elf expert. They maintain that with the aid of either 11 or 23 dimensions, it's easy for Santa Claus to visit every child. Personally, I just take it on faith. # posted by Mary @ 6:22 PM

I'm sure there's all kinds of interesting studies you could do with Santa Claus: comparing Santa ideas across cultures, the physics, the history, psychological-sociological studies of Santa Claus, how Santa has been portrayed in films, whether Santa is portrayed (and how) in literature... Now I want to go out and do research on my own!
I'm curious about the physics questions. I mean what did the elf expert have to say. He's probably seen Santa flying a whole bunch of times so maybe he understands the lift that running reindeers produce in conjunction with a large fat man with millions of toys in a sleigh.
