Gritting my teeth

I sat down to write my blog this morning, and for a change I found it really difficult to work. Normally I've got something to say, and I just say it, but for the last day or two I've not been able to concentrate on anything really. So I thought I would share some techniques for working when you don't want to, but it's up to you to provide the oomph to make yourself - really useful if you need to study your online program.

First, I make a list of everything I need to do - both work and personal. I will make sure that I do something that is easy and quick, and tick it off the list. This means that I've started work, so I can continue. Next, I find something that I really don't want to do, and I do it - now I'm starting to feel that I've got the bit between my teeth. So I go for the task that I really have to get done now, and I stick to it - even if I'm interrupted, or I give in to a bout of games playing. I make sure that I finish it before I finish work.

I have to say it can be exhausting, but the problem of not doing studying is worse - I'm not just wasting my money, I also am wasting all the opportunities that will come along when I finish my online program. So a little gritting of teeth is worth it, and I also find that next day it's easier, because I managed it all yesterday.

Talking Turkish

Having had some extra tuition for my accounting course, I decided that I needed to practice my Turkish - studying an online program in a new language is just great to get you started and to learn the basics, but this is a language, and I need two way communication to become proficient. So I'm in New Zealand looking for native Turkish speakers - not easy.

However, I think I've found one, but on the telephone they said that they also wanted to improve their written English. I think we are going to have to have a little discipline about this - one session English, one session Turkish. It's so easy to just talk in the language that you are absolutely familiar with, instead of working hard to communicate in the new language. Still, I want to get my money's worth out of this distance learning package (really distance learning now), and the only way is to practice.

Why is it that education is one of those products that you pay for, and then have to do all the work for?
