Change of Climate

Of course, having written about the bad patch I was experiencing in my online studies, I immediately become motivated to do good work. I've just spent some hours researching a particular topic, and found so much material that I could write a whole dissertation on it.

I do love that surprise when you suddenly find that you can work, and you wonder what on earth made you feel so hopeless. I've just become entirely motivated again, and I feel like I'll be able to finish this module in no time flat.

Bad Patches

I'm really going through a down time for my online program, but I'm working my way through it. Obviously, you know when you take on a project such as an online degree that not everything is going to be sweetness and light, and you need to have strategies to get yourself through patches such as this.

For me it's a case of working out what I need to do to keep my head above water, and then how long I can keep this minimal effort going. I usually come out of these moods within two to three weeks, which makes them manageable. Longer than this, and I need to get in touch with my tutor to work out some ways of making things better.

New Technologies

some feedback on the blended learning mode for online courses. Some people find that they can contribute to the award that they are studying for by taking courses online before they are ready to study full-time. This gives them a chance to "taste" the program that they wish to study, and if it is really not what they want or they find it doesn't suit their needs, then they have chance to change.

For some people this is a really good opportunity to make full-time study less intense, and if they have to earn during their study time, it makes life less pressured.

There is little doubt that there will be a host of different study modes offered as technology allows communications of all kinds to be immediate and not related to distance. We will see the use of video conferencing, web casting, and even the use of mobile telephones and hand held devices playing a larger part in education of all kinds.

Blended Learning

Blended learning is the new application of online learning, according to the Business Week Online. The idea of studying with a mix of methods of delivery is very attractive to young students who are totally conversant with the use of computers and the Internet, and who are studying and working in order to pay fees. They choose modules that they want to study in the classroom, and others that they feel they are more comfortable studying online.

Of course, this depends on the educational establishment being able to deliver the same content in the two modes, but in fact many universities and colleges are doing just that. They recognise that the method of delivery is simply another variable in their programs, so they store materials online and then deliver them as necessary.

This flexibility helps students to be able to study to their own strengths. It also can speed up study for some people, allowing them to pace their degree or other program to suit themselves.
