I'm just beginning to work out the good bits of not being in my normal environment. i can't work online, but I can read - and reading is the bit that I absolutely love. I can also make notes, because although I am not online, I can fire up my computer and use it.
So I'm progressing with my online program by not being online. It's really good, and as I have informed my tutors of my difficulties, I don't even feel guilty about it. So every night I read and read - no cooking, no housework. Maybe I could find some way of living like this on a permanent basis.
I'm now settling into my new job. Unfortunately I'm likely to spend around three weeks in a hotel while I find somewhere to live on a slightly more permanent basis.
Although in some ways this is good, in that I have time on my hands and can therefore spend time reading and working on my online program, in other ways it is a real nuisance because I don't have my computer set up for easy access, or access to broadband.
This kind of situation really makes the point that studying is an activity that is affected by the environment in which you are working. One great advantage of studying in an institution is that they have the work space organised so that you can do the activities you need to do. Working at home can be as good if not better in that you can organise your space to suit yourself, but if that is disturbed, studying online courses can become impossible.
